FAQ
What multiplication do 4th graders learn?
Fourth graders multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using the standard algorithm and strategies based on place value. This is CCSS 4.NBT.5 — for example 3,124 × 6 or 47 × 28.
What is the standard algorithm for multiplication?
The standard algorithm stacks the numbers vertically and multiplies each digit of the bottom number by the top number, place by place, then adds the partial products. For 2-digit by 2-digit problems, students write two partial products and shift the second one a place to the left before adding.
Should kids know their times tables first?
Yes — fluency with single-digit multiplication facts (the times tables) is what makes multi-digit multiplication manageable. By 4th grade students are expected to recall these facts quickly so they can focus on the regrouping and place-value steps of the standard algorithm.
Are these multiplication worksheets free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no download limit. Pick your problem type, click Download PDF, and print a fresh randomized worksheet every time.
